What’s your production name and where are you from?
My name is G Rocka and i’m from a real small town called El Centro, its about three and half hours from LA but it seems LA has been my second home these days.
How would you describe your sound and or production style?
I would describe my sound as universal, something that everyone can like no matter what you’re into. Although, I am from Cali so there is a bit of funk to it.
What do you use in the studio to create?
The Roland Fantom x6 is what i use for the foundation of my production… i also use a Edirol UA-4FX, Sonar 8 as my DAW, and a bunch of plug-ins.
Are you currently working with any new artists?
I’m actually working with a rapper named Infamous MC, who does some writing for me. Felicia Ray, who also does some writing for me, is a singer I’m working with as well, she’s crazy!
Congrats on winning the iStandard Producer Showcase in LA, describe the over all experience and how it feels to be recognized as someone with next level talent?
Thanks man. The iStandard Showcase in LA was definitely a fulfilling night! Everyone there left their egos at the door, went to network, and just had fun. It feels good to know that the judges understood where i was coming from as far as my music and gave me the win. Its not everyday you get opportunities like that and I’m grateful it turned out the way it did!
What type of advice did the judges give you? Do you feel it was accurate?
Two of three judges said overall the beats/drums were crazy, a little underground, but crazy and the last judge just said everything was crazy. I can definitely agree with them as far as it sounding a little underground, because most of the selection i chose did have a “raw” sound to it and that can come off as underground if not mixed properly.
Whats next on G Rocka’s agenda?
Right now i just have to keep the momentum going, use this as a platform to expand my network and of course keep making music.
