Video: Jake One Lists His Top 5 Producers
Tuesday, August 17th, 2010Back Track: Jay-Z – ‘Roc Boyz’ [Produced by Sean C & LV]
Monday, June 14th, 2010Interview by: Frankie P
When and where did you make the track?
We made the beat in Daddy’s House. We had started the American Gangster album, so we were diggin everyday. I caught the Roc Boyz sample, jumped in the whip and jetted straight to the studio. We immediately went in on it. “Roc Boys” was probably the 3rd beat we did.
What was the studio session like?
JayZ would pop up at the studio every other day, stick his head in like “what yall got?” Then he’d go back to his studio do vox and send em back. We’d add all our Instruments over his vocals and go back and forth til it was done. He took no time to do his vocals. He’d get a beat and we’d have all his parts the next day.
First time you heard it on radio or in club what were you thinking?
First time I heard it on the radio Flex was droppin bombs on it in NY
Anything else you can tell us that revolves around that track (funny story or weird event that happened with the track)?
When we mixed “Roc Boyz” part of the outro was muted. When we opened it some of the horn tracks ended but the sax kept going and dropped right on time when he said “when I get off the plane I wanna hear the horns go..” It was a mistake because he did his those parts before we added all the live instruments, it just happened to fall right and sounded ill.
